FT 1844 Freiburg

The Freiburger Turnerschaft of 1844 e.V. with its more than 6,500 member is not only Badens largest sports club, but also one of the oldest. Some 40 years ago, the FT 1844 Freiburg began developing into a modern major sports club with its own swimming pool, numerous gymnasiums and outdoor sports facilities, forming the FT-Sportpark on the Schwarzwaldstrasse. At the FT 1844 Freiburg, an almost 160 year tradition and modern trend sports thrive and prosper in perfect harmony. One third of all members are involved in competitive sports, two thirds do leisure sports and health and fitness-promoting sports. No matter if you are a baby or a senior, the FT 1844 Freiburg has something to offer every age group. This trend to versatility has been formative in the clubs development. Significant is the momentum towards innovation: as a pioneer, the FT 1844 Freiburg forged its way to new fields for the club sports. For quite some time, the club has maintained socio-pedagogical institutions: approx. 300 children between the ages of 2 and 10 are being cared for today in 2 sports kindergartens, the first founded nationwide in 1973, in the integrative kindergarten, in the playgroup and in the day-care center. The consequential expansion of the sports kindergarten - the FT Sports Elementary School - is a nationwide unique pilot project and is administered by the FT 1844 Freiburg in private sponsorship. The administration, full-time personnel and the volunteer advisory boards are accordingly professional.

It is the FT 1844 Freiburgs merit that Freiburg has become an Artistic Skating stronghold, setting the ideal conditions for this sport with its construction of the first sports hall in Germany in the FT-Sportpark, its solely functioning as a roller skating hall. In the last 50 years, the FT has produced numerous World Champions such as Michael Obrecht, Frédérique Florentin, Frank Albiez and the brothers Stefan and Daniel Müller, and has served as National Training Center. Those responsible at the Club and in the Artistic Skating department are very dedicated and do brilliant work.
