Getting there
Freiburg is situated in the south west of Germany, close to the French and Swiss borders and right in the heart of Europe. The city can easily be reached from the several airports in the vicinity. Travel to and from the airports is possible by high-speed train (ICE) or, in the case of the EuroAirport, by airport shuttle bus.

Despite being relatively far away from Freiburg at a distance of around 270 km, the airport in Frankfurt is ideal for travelling to Freiburg. As Germany´s international hub, flights arrive here from every corner of the world. The onward journey can then be made by rail (ICE) with a direct connection between Frankfurt airport and the Freiburg central railway station. The "Frankfurt Airport" rail station is located right next to the airport and has direct access to the terminal. By car, the journey takes approximately 2½ hours via the A5 from Frankfurt.
Stuttgart Airport
At around 200 km away from Freiburg, Stuttgart airport is a good alternative depending on the
airline. After a short trip by tram from the airport to Stuttgart´s main railway station, Freiburg can be easily reached via Karlsruhe. Travel by car using the A8 and A5 motorways takes around 2 hours.
Zurich Airport
At around 150 km away in neighbouring Switzerland, Zurich is also an option for travelling to Freiburg. To reach the Freiburg central rail station from the airport a regional train will take you as far as the Zurich main station from where you can catch a direct high-speed train. You should leave about 2 hours to make the journey by car. Since arriving here would involve travelling through a third country, please ensure that you are aware of the relevant entry regulations.
EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg
The closest airport with international routes and charter flights is the EuroAirport in the tri-border region. The route to Freiburg takes you via bus or rail to the Basel central railway station from where you can take a direct train. Travel by car using the French A35 motorway and the German A5 motorway takes around 45 minutes. You could also use the airport shuttle bus which takes you directly to Freiburg. Baden-Airpark, Karlsruhe
This airport is around 100 km north of Freiburg between Baden-Baden and Karlsruhe. Freiburg´s central station can be easily reached by rail from the stations in Baden-Baden, Rastatt or Karlsruhe, which can all be accessed via public transport. You can also book a direct bus to Freiburg from this airport. Travel by car via the A5 motorway will take at least 1 hour.
Strasbourg Airport
Strasbourg´s airport lies to the south of the city. From there the city´s main rail station can be reached via public transport. Train connections can then be taken to Freiburg, via Offenburg. The 60 km distance can be managed in around 45 minutes by car. As the airport is in France, please be aware of the entry regulations valid here.
